Karibu Sana
Welcome to Bethsaida Girls' Secondary School (BOEC), a home and educational center for over 120 youngorphan girls from all across Tanzania. As the outreach arm of the Olof Palme Orphans Education Centre, a Tanzanian non-governmental organization, our mission is to deliver a quality secondary education and provide the necessary psycho-social support forour students. We rely on donor support for all our continued activities.
Bethsaida recruits its girls from regions all over Tanzania, focusing on girls in particular need, be that dire financial or social circumstances, and girls who have lost both of their parents. Since our opening in 2005, we have added a new class of Form I students every year; we currently teach 120 young women between the ages of 13 and 19 the national curriculum for Forms I-IV. We hope to continue to expand to include Forms V and VI in the coming years, thereby allowing our girls to complete their secondary education and qualify for university scholarships.
The short profiles of the Form IV girls on the right side of the screen tell the stories of the young women who depend on external donor aid. Each of the girls depicted finished Form IV in November 2010 and will be unable to complete A-Levels without the financial support of a sponsor. Please have a closer look at their profiles!
