Sandaw Tribe (Kondoa Region)
Born 30 June 1989 in Singida
Favorite subject:
Biology
Future dreams:
Christina is very interested in becoming a "doctor of the heart", or a cardiologist. She remembers a relative who suffered from heart disease and had difficulty getting care, because all the specialists had left Tanzania for other countries.
Hobbies:
Christina likes ...
Her parents:
When Christina was very young, her mother died of a stomach problem—Christina was never told, or does not remember, all the details. Then, when she was 11, Christina’s father died in a bad traffic accident.
Her siblings:
Christina has two brothers—one younger and one older—who live alone together back in Singida. Christina has not seen them in two years, and she worries about her younger brother especially.
Her guardian:
Christina has no legal guardian outside of Bethsaida.
How Christina came to Bethsaida:
After Christina's father died, there was no one to take care of her or her brothers—all of the family's relatives claimed it was someone else's responsibility. In the meantime, Christina's older brother dropped out of school and began working as a day laborer, trying to make enough money to support the three of them. As Christina says, "Life was so difficult." A kindly neighbor heard of Bethsaida and told Christina about it, because she felt that Christina should be able to "study like other children."
What Christina wants others to know about her:
She would like to see her younger brother again soon, and she would really like to get a good job so that she could help him go to school. Christina says that she "knows of the difficult life" and can use that knowledge to help other orphans whose relatives have abandoned them. She would be really happy if she got a sponsor for Forms V and VI.
