Elizabeth Millinga

Form IV

Hehe Tribe (Iringa Region)

Born 28 April 1989 in Njombe

Favorite subjects:

Geography, History, Mathematics

Future dreams:

Eliza thinks that every house in Tanzania should be provided with light and power which is why she would like to become an Engineer of Electricity. Another of her dreams is to be a broadcaster, because many orphans have difficult problems and it is Eliza who wants to be their voice in Tanzanian TV.

Hobbies:

In her free time Eliza likes to read books, chat with her fellows, play different ball-games (her favorite one is netball) and sing.

Her parents:

As Eliza’s parents were having a ‘conflict’ when she was born, her aunt took her in. Her mother died of unknown reasons when Eliza was three years old. Although her father didn’t die before 1998, probably because of a heart-attack, she never lived together with him.

Her siblings:

Eliza has one older sister (Debora) and three ‘young sisters’, i.e. cousins (Ester, Jenny, Imelda). They are very close, like sisters.

Her guardian:

As one would suspect, Eliza’s aunt is her guardian. Since her husband has died, she has very little money which is why Eliza used to have to work at the market every once in a while. However, her aunt supports Eliza as well as possible.

How Eliza came to Bethsaida:

When her aunt, who has always been living in Dar es Salaam, heard a radio-announcement about Bethsaida she came to talk to the headmistress. Although Bethsaida’s first year had already started, Eliza was interviewed and tested and was – to her great relief – accepted.

What Eliza wants others to know about her:

“I don’t like people who segregate or discriminate others. When I was young, I was heaving problems with my ears and I couldn’t hear properly, so people started staying away from me. I like to stand up for people who are being discriminated against in any way, and help them.”
