Born 30 September 1989 in Musoma

Future dreams:
Joyce says: “I really want to continue with Form V and VI and even go up to university”. She wants to be an economist later in order to help the society. No one before was an economist in her family but Joyce “want[s] to be the first”. She hopes that she can choose an economics combination in the following two years. If she can’t study economics, Joyce would like to study engineering “in order to build good houses”.
Hobbies:
Joyce loves playing netball and reading books very much. She likes listening music, especially Tanzanian Bongo Flava. She then often sings and dances with the radio. “Making stories with others” is one of her other favorite activities.
Her parents:
Joyce doesn’t know her father. Her mother got pregnant when she was still at school, but wasn’t sure about who the father was. Joyce lived with her grandmother when she was young and later lived with her mother and her husband. She always thought that he would be her father. Her mother died in 2001 during a delivery. Both mother and baby died. After her mother’s death she lived with her “daddy”. Because he didn’t have the money she stayed at home for two years and sold vegetables.
Her siblings:
Joyce has two younger half-brothers (Godfrey and Jacob).
Her guardian:
Joyce’s guardian is her aunt.
How Joyce came to Bethsaida:
Joyce asked some catholic nuns for help and they brought her to Bethsaida. She says: “By that time I didn’t believe it. I was so happy…”. The nuns encourage her even now. They tell her to “pull up her socks” and pray for her. Joyce believes that without Bethsaida she would probably be married now.
What Joyce wants others to know about her:
When Joyce has a job later she wants to help children, especially orphans (and if possible all society). She says: “I’m a polite girl, I like others, I love everybody”
