Loida Samuel

Loida Samuel

Form IV

Haya Tribe (Kagera Region)

Born 25 December 1987 in Dodoma

Favorite subject:

Biology

Future dreams:

Loida dreams of being a doctor for women. She wants to help women during their delivery to save the mothers’ lives. This way she wants to help to reduce the number of orphans and give children the chance to grow up with their mothers. She says that if she cannot become a doctor, environmental sciences would be another interesting study.

Hobbies:

Loida loves reading novels and writing songs. She says: “I’m an artist of gospel songs”. Loida has her own singing group and with the school’s help they will record their first songs soon.

Her parents:

From when Loida was born she had been living with her mother. Her father, who had never taken care of her, died in 1988 of an infected wound. She never lived together with him. Loida doesn’t know very much about him because she was very young when he died. After that the parents of Loida’s father started looking after her, but Loida stayed with her mum until she died in 2002 of a usual disease. Loida isn’t very sure about what caused her mother’s death. After that she moved to Dar es Salaam to live with her grandmother (from her mother’s side), but a short time later, in 2003, Loida’s grandparents (from her father’s side) started taking care of her until today.

Her siblings:

Loida has one elder brother who is 36, two half-brothers and three half-sisters.

Her guardian:

Loida didn’t know about her real brother but he started searching for her when he heard about having a younger sister. He is married and his family treats her like a daughter.

How Loida came to Bethsaida:

After Primary School Loida stayed at home for three years and was doing house- and fieldwork. Her aunt heard the Bethsaida-announcement in the radio in 2005. At that time forms had been distributed in many different churches. Loida went to the Agape Center, a Catholic charity that gives some support to Bethsaida, to have an interview.

What Loida wants others to know about her:

Loida says: “I’m a girl who stayed at home for a long time but I didn’t give up on myself. I’m still in need of support from other people because my aim is to study at university. I will pray to get a sponsor for Form V and VI.”
