Her parents:
Both Odilina’s mother and father died in 2002. Because of stomach problems one day her mother went to hospital where the doctor told her that she needed a stomach operation because of some dangerous swellings but she didn’t have the money to pay for it. When she then also got malaria short time later, her body was to weakened to fight it. She died of it. Her father had been suffering from diabetes, but couldn’t afford to buy the medicine the keep him healthy. He finally died of this disease.
Her siblings:
Odilina is the third born in her family. She has three brothers and one sister who are being taken care of by their neighbours.
Her guardian:
When her parents died nobody took care of them, but when her uncle moved to Dar es Salaam from Mbeya three years later, he became her guardian. Odilina likes him very much, they have a good relationship.
How Odilina came to Bethsaida:
After her parents’ death Odilina and her four siblings had nobody who helped them. All their relatives lived far away or didn’t feel responsible for them, so Odilina, being 15 years old at that time, started to work in a café. Three years later her uncle moved to Dar es Salaam and started taking care of her. He soon heard about Bethsaida in a radio-announcement and sent Odilina to the Agape Centre to get interviewed. She performed well and could finally stop working at the café.
What Odilina wants others to know about her:
"I really need help for my further studies because I have no alternatives when I finish my studies here at Bethsaida."
