Future dreams:
Patricia is very interested in sciences, particularly in civil engineering. She wants to become an engineer and make technical designs for bridges and buildings once she has finished her education.
Hobbies:
Patricia loves to read the newspapers—her favorite is a Dar es Salaam circular called Uwazi. She also loves telling stories, real or fictional, to the other girls at Bethsaida.
Her parents:
Patricia’s father died in 1999 of unknown causes, although Patricia remembers that he had had badly swollen legs for some time before his death. Her mother passed away in 2004, because of some type of cancer.
Her siblings:
Patricia has a younger sister, who lives near Bethsaida, in the community of Mbezi, with their uncle. She also has an elder brother, who lives in Mwenge with another uncle.
Her guardian:
Patricia's guardian is her uncle. She really loves to visit him in Mbezi, particularly because she misses her younger sister quite a bit.
How Patricia came to Bethsaida:
Patricia and her sister were taken in by their uncle in Mbezi after their mothers’ death. Her uncle heard about Bethsaida on the radio one day, so Patricia went, was interviewed and accepted to the school in 2005. She really likes Bethsaida — it is a very quiet, lovely place, and she says that the quiet, careful environment helps her to study.
What Patricia wants others to know about her:
Patricia really wants to continue studying after she finishes Form IV this year She also loves music and listening to the radio—particularly to gospel music and to Kiswahili rap.
