Future dreams:
Rose really dreams about becoming an engineer as she would like to deal with electricity and computers, but she fears that she’s not good enough at maths. If she can’t become an engineer, she would like to be a doctor for eyes or children.
Hobbies:
In her free time Rose likes to read story-books, discuss with her friends, and sing.
Her parents:
When Rose’s mother was in Standard 5, she got pregnant from the headmaster of a Secondary School. When her pregnancy was visible, she had to tell her father about who had made her pregnant. Now the neighourhood demanded that the headmaster, who was refusing to take responsibility for the pregnancy, had to go to jail, but instead of accepting that shame, Rose’s father decided to commit suicide even before Rose was born. Now Rose’s mother tried to have abortion which is why she started taking “medicine”, prescriped by a witch-doctor. Because of that she got very sick and went to the hospital where the doctors told her that if she didn’t stop taking these drugs, both she and her child would die. Instead of having the abortion she waited until the delivery and ran off three months later, leaving Rose with her grandfather.
Her siblings:
Rose doesn’t have any siblings.
Her guardian:
Rose has no legal guardian.
How Rose came to Bethsaida:
After having been left by her mother, Rose spent the first three years of her life with her grandfather who cared well for her in Iringa . When he died in 1991, Rose’s aunt started taking care of her, but she suffered from HIV and died also in 1997. Being nine years old now Rose went to live wither her other aunt, also in Iringa, but even that aunt died six years later in 2003 of an unknown disease. As there were no more relatives left now, a neighbour “took care” of Rose: Aged 15 she had to start working for that neighbour as a house girl. He didn’t treat her well and didn’t pay her either, but at least he bought her some school stuff she needed for Primary School. When she had finished that two years later, her neighbour sent her to a friend’s house in Dar es Salaam to work there as a house girl. This woman also treated Rose badly, but now luck seemed to come upon her for the first time in her life: Her neighbours heard an announcement about Bethsaida and talked to the woman Rose was working for in order to send her to Bethsaida. Thewoman agreed, Rose got interviewed, passed the test and was accepted. She is more than thankful to be here.
What Rose wants others to know about her:
“In the life of everybody anytime anywhere anything can happen. I like to give hope to people.”
