Zainab Omary

Zainab Omary

Form IV

Makonde Tribe (Mtwala Region)

Born 9 September 1990 in Temeke

Favorite subject:

Kiswahili

Future dreams:

Zainab would really like to study law and become a lawyer and maybe eventually a judge. She feels that there need to be more legal professionals who are able to defend orphans and widows—the type of men and women whose help she needed when she was first orphaned.

Hobbies:

Zainab likes to do the other girls' hair and nails. One day she thinks it might be fun to have her own salon.

Her parents:

Zainab’s mother died in 2000 after complaining of chest pain, and her father died shortly thereafter, in 2001, also of chest problems.

Her siblings:

Zainab has one older sister and one older brother, both of whom went out on their own when Zainab's father passed away. Zainab sometimes sees them when she visits her aunt, who lives in Temeke.

Her guardian:

Zainab’s guardian is her mother's younger sister, an aunt who lives in Temeke and whom Zainab calls "my little mom" and loves dearly. Zainab is also close friends with her aunt's four children.

How Zainab came to Bethsaida:

Zainab came to Bethsaida in 2005, when the wife of an uncle heard about the school on the radio. Zainab is very excited to be here—she says that Bethsaida "gave me my future", as her aunt was too poor to pay to educate Zainab further.

What Zainab wants others to know about her:

Zainab was very sad today because her eye glasses accidentally fell out of her shirt pocket and into the toilet, where they broke!
